C 20 - 28 August @ 12.00 One Academy Productions
Upon entering the (packed) theatre, I realised I was just a couple of seats away from one half of the writing duo, John and Gerry Kielty, that wrote 'Wasted Love'. Well, I thought, that's scuppered any chance of an early escape if this is bad/boring/offensive, etc. I needn't have worried though, because this production is anything but bad/boring.....actually, some people might find a couple of lyrics offensive, but in a good way! The set-up is a self-help group for the needy, lonely and downright creepy who have all found themselves heartbroken and alone. One by one they tell their stories and through song, dialogue, movement and dance. As well as the genuinely funny and laugh out loud moments, there are some really touching ones, and a variety of musical styles to keep things interesting. The cast work extremely well as an ensemble and I leave hoping they all find their Miss/Mister right soon. Oh, and if you are, like me, a potential flight risk and always sit in an aisle seat, you might just get lucky with a reassuring hug before you head back out to the big, bad world.
