Review: Swing

This is such a fun show!!  Froth in abundance in the middle-England small town of Wafthead.  You can taste the Pimms, smell the quiche and hear the ‘pock-pock' from the tennis club..

As ever, nothing is QUITE what it seems....  And rightly so, in this entertaining show.  The ‘star' seems to be the triumvirate of housewives - you meet them in the opening number!  The ‘Desperate Housewives' of English suburbia convey their characters with such enthusiasm; it almost seems a shame that they are not the plot-line.

The plot revolves around their teenage offspring, also well-played with a good sense for comedy, but this show misses the point about where the real story lies.  There are moments where the plot comes together brilliantly and the audience clearly relish those moments.

The band is excellent, under the musical direction of Yon-Fung Au, and it is a genuine pleasure to find a show with a real, live band.

It would have been more enjoyable to find out more about the women ‘between John Lewis and quiche/ we've created our niche', but it must be said that the Hebrew Gangster's Rap does stick in the mind,

BOSH!
