Jack and Jill are the children of a movie mogul soon to hand over the
reigns of his empire. In order to decide which of the siblings will
lead the family business, he sends them on a round-the-world
challenge. Travelling through the major American, European and Asian
cities, Jack and Jill come across some interesting characters and have
a good song and dance while they're at it.
Projections are at the centre of Reel To Real. The production's entire
sets are created electronically and actors interact with the on-screen
action thanks to humourous and inventive direction throughout. The
whole exercise is an excuse to put set-piece songs from classic movies
on stage: "Singing In The Rain" and "Diamond Are A Girl's Best Friend"
are included.
What could be a tacky and messy show is in fact a polished product due
to the impressive precision in both singing and choreography. The
well-funded production benefits from a fantastic cast and while the
script may not be intellectually challenging, it fulfils its
requirements in keeping the audience engaged. A entertaining evening
for all the family.
