MTM:UK Go Speed Dating with MMD (Mercury Musical Developments)

You are invited to participate in an Open Space “Speed Dating” Event. Are you in Musical Theatre and do you:

  • Want to find writers, composers, musicians, producers, directors, choreographers, musical directors, book writers, lawyers, accountants or others to work with you on a new / existing / potential Musical Theatre project?
  • Do you have a great idea and you want to talk to other Musical Theatre people about it?
  • Do you have something to say about Musical Theatre and want to have your voice heard?
  • Do you just want to hear what everyone else wants to say and perhaps meet some interesting people who work in the industry?

If the answer to any of the above is YES – come to MTM:UK & MMD joint event to inspire new ideas and collaborations in Musical Theatre. Everyone is welcome. The event is free for MTM:UK Members with £5 charge for guests and non-members (reclaimable if joining MTM).

Business Breakfast Meeting: Musical Theatre in an Uncertain Policital Future

Our Business Breakfast meeting on Tuesday 2nd of March was an opportunity for members to have a say about what is happening in Musical Theatre and their concerns for the future.

  • Does the impending election affect you and the decisions you are making?
  • Has the Arts Council reshuffle worried you?
  • Do you have concerns about funding for Musical Theatre?
  • What do you think are the most important issues to address in Musical Theatre right now?
  • Do you have a burning issue that you want to talk about?

For our February Network Evening we are going to focus on Musical Directors. We will have a panel of experienced and up-and-coming Musical Directors and Supervisors to discuss issues that affect Musical Directors and what trends to expect in the future. And as usual, there will be lots of opportunities to meet other MTM members, network and develop good contacts.

Everyone is welcome. The event is free for MTM Members (and you'll get a

glass of wine free too!). There is a £5 charge for guests and non-members (reclaimable if joining MTM on the night)

ROADSHOWS   MTM:UK in association with one/more regional theatres will look at the development programme of musical theatre in a single region of Britain, and explore how different partners can work together. (click on link for more information.)

Tue 15th  MTM:UK’S FIRST BUSINESS BREAKFAST
A 9.30am one hour gathering with coffee and croissants to share a topic of concern or interest.  We welcome Nimex Theatres owner Nica Burns and Old Vic Theatre producer Joseph Smith to discuss with us the challenges of long-term new work development and the role that fringe theatres, regional and subsidised houses, and emerging producers have to play in “Feeding the West End”.

A gap in the history of MTM:UK exists between March - December 2007. We are working to restore it, please bear with us.

FEBRUARY 2007 
a) Panel discussion: Paul Gudgin and James Seabright look at the future of Edinburgh Festival and lay a challenge to MTM:UK to work with them to develop musical theatre.
b) Open Meeting: MTM:UK hold an open meeting for Fringe directors/producers as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Roadshow.

b) National Networking Day meeting with MMD and Opera & Music Theatre Forum.
c) A series of presentations to drama school admin programmes to introduce Associate
    membership to graduates in London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff.
