Homemade Fusion

C soco    13 - 29 August @ 20.30    In Short Productions

So often in musical theatre, you run the risk of seeing something which could ruin the rest of your day. Why do we put ourselves through this mind numbing torture? Because all a musical theatre audience member wants to see is the perfect show. Something your jaw drops at, has the wow factor, the feeling of complete and utter joy you get seeing something magical take place before your eyes! “Homemade Fusion” did all these things, and more.

The simplicity of this production works, and it works well. The stage is simple with little clutter, as the director obviously knows good theatre is done. The actors are comfortably dressed helping to give the feeling of a relaxed atmosphere. The pianist, visible at all times, plays with great skill, but there to remind us that what we’re watching is musical theatre. The songs are lyrical, funny, heart warming, compelling and gloriously composed by Michael Kooman, lyrics by Christopher Dimond. The 6 performers each individually deserve a huge amount of credit for their singular performances, and together as a group, even more so. Note and pitch perfect throughout, harmonising with great ease and skill, not one foot out of place, not one falter of any sort, these are 6 majorly talented actors!

Homemade fusion deserves all the praise it gets as being one of, if not, the best musical at this years festival.
