- The work must be considered a ‘dramatic work using music to advance the story’ by the Organisers.

- The work must be a new piece of work, yet to play an extended run.
- The work must be, in the opinion of MTM:UK, intended and appropriate for further production.
Innovation
In 2011 we are introducing a new award, Innovation in Musical Theatre. This award will honour a piece of work that, in the opinion of the Judging Panel is exploring the form and pushing the boundaries of musical theatre. This may apply to distinctive use of music; approach to the writing/story; relationship to the audience and/or other experimentation.
Best Musical Production
Works eligible for this award can be from the existing canon of musical theatre. MTM:UK is dedicated to celebrating and fostering new work, originality and creativity, so the assessing will primarily focus on new works but recognises that there can be exceptional creativity in the re-creation of an existing piece of work.
