Criteria

To be eligible for any of the MTM:UK awards, the production MUST be playing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in weeks 2 and either week 1 or 3. Shows playing single weeks will not be considered. Professional companies and full-time performing arts training academies are automatically eligible for assessment. Companies, groups and other productions not fitting these criteria will be considered on an individual basis prior to the Festival. Schools productions will not be considered. 

OD Musical Award for MOST PROMISING NEW MUSICAL
To be eligible for the Best New Musical Award the piece must:

  • be an original piece of work with an original score (compilation musicals of existing catalogue work will not be included)
  • contain a minimum of 4 original songs
  • not have been performed for more than 10 performances in its current form prior to the Festival
  • be entered in the Musicals & Opera section of the Fringe Brochure
  • be available for future production either with the existing producers and performers, or through a further professional presentation

Dress Circle Award for BEST MUSICAL PRODUCTION
This award covers musical revivals, adaptations and other musicals being shown at the Festival. It is simply to honour the most innovative, creative and well-produced show on the Fringe.

MTM:UK Award for BEST BOOK for a NEW MUSICAL
Only new musicals are eligible for this award (criteria as in the Best New Musical Award applies) A writer may be selected in more than one category for the same show, and the award can be given to more than one person if there are co-writers involved.

MTM:UK Award for BEST  LYRICS for a NEW MUSICAL
Only new musicals are eligible for this award (criteria as in the Best New Musical Award applies) A writer may be selected in more than one category for the same show, and the award can be given to more than one person if there are co-writers involved.

MTM:UK Award for BEST MUSIC for a NEW MUSICAL
Only new musicals are eligible for this award (criteria as in the Best New Musical Award applies) A writer may be selected in more than one category for the same show, and the award can be given to more than one person if there are co-writers involved.
